Cambugahay Falls is probably not as spectacular as some of the bigger and taller waterfalls in other provinces like Cebu or Surigao but what makes it special is its color and its multi-tier grandeur. I was quite surprised with its bright turquoise waters, which I have never seen anywhere else.

How to go to Cambugahay Falls?
Cambugahay Falls is located in the central part of Siquijor Island, near the town of Lazi. Siquijor itself is a small island province in the Central Visayas region, known for its mystical folklore, pristine beaches, and charming rural landscapes. The falls are easily accessible from the main circumferential road that loops around the island.
Once you arrive on Siquijor Island, you have several options for transportation to Cambugahay Falls:
- Motorbike Rental: Renting a motorbike is the most popular and flexible way to explore Siquijor. Motorbikes can be rented from your accommodation or rental shops around the island. The cost is approximately 500 PHP per day.
- Tricycle: If you’re not comfortable driving a motorbike, you can hire a tricycle. There’s really no standard rate for this so negotiate the price before starting your journey.
- Private Car: For a more comfortable trip, especially if you’re traveling in a group or with family, you can hire a private car with a driver.

Driving to the falls
If you prefer to drive on your own, that’s should be fine as well. Cambugahay Falls is located north of the town of Lazi. The roads on Siquijor island are in great condition, and there is very little traffic, making for a pleasant drive.
- If you’re staying in the San Juan area, it will take about 30-40 minutes to reach the falls.
- If you’re coming from Larena or Siquijor Town, take the road to Cang-apa from Luyang and then to Tigbawan. This should take you about 50-60 minutes.
Can I do a day tour from Dumaguete City?
If you’re traveling from Dumaguete City, it’s easiest to join a day tour to Siquijor. The ferry ride takes about 90 minutes, and the ticket is usually included in the tour. You can book this day tour via Klook here: Siquijor Cambugahay Falls and Heritage Day Trip.
On the tour, you’ll start with a morning ferry ride from Dumaguete and visit landmarks like the St. Francis de Assisi Bell Tower and Triad Cafe for lunch. You’ll explore coastal towns like Enrique Villanueva and Maria, seeing attractions such as Salagdoong Beach and Cang-Isok House. You’ll also visit Cambugahay Falls for swimming and see the ancient Balete Tree in Lazi before returning to Dumaguete.
Is there a designated parking space?
Upon arrival, you’ll find a small parking area near the entrance to the falls. Parking fees are minimal and will cost you as follows:
- Cars/vans: PHP 25 (approximately $0.50 USD)
- Motorbikes: PHP 10 (approximately $0.20 USD)

How much is the entrance fee?
During our last visit, we paid an entrance fee of PHP 20 (approximately $0.40 USD). But note that this may change without prior notice.
Accessing the Falls
From the parking area, you will descend a staircase to reach the falls. It’s about 135 steps down to the first pool of the waterfall, and the walk should not take more than 5 minutes.
The ascend is another story haha! Going up again to the main road requires a bit of stamina. It took us about 10-15 minutes but it was an exhausting 10-15 minutes! Lack of exercise for us, I guess.
Is it accessible for senior citizens?
My grandmother who was 83 years old, at that time, was still able to descend and ascend these stairs. I guess if you’re wondering whether senior citizens can access the falls, it will highly depend on the stamina and strength of your senior family member. My grandma is relatively fitter than most seniors so she still made it. She had to rest at some points during the climb up and all 4 of us were assisting her during the climb. It can also be quite steep so make sure there’s at least 2 people holding the senior during the ascend and descend.
Exploring the Falls
Once you’ve reached the falls, you can enjoy swimming, the rope swings, and the beautiful scenery. There are three tiers to explore, with the first and third tiers being the most popular for swimming and activities.
Remember to bring cash for any additional activities like the rope swing or bamboo raft rental, and arrive early if you wish to avoid the crowds and enjoy the tranquility of the falls.
First Tier
The first tier is the most popular and visually striking. It features a waterfall that stands at approximately 12-15 feet tall, cascading into a large, milky blue pool.
This tier is where visitors can engage in a variety of activities:
- Swimming: The pool is perfect for a refreshing swim in the clear, cool waters.
- Wooden Raft: For a small fee of 50 PHP ($1 USD), you can rent a wooden raft that takes you right to the base of the falls, allowing you to experience the mist and the majestic view up close.
- Rope Swings: This tier also hosts the famous rope swings. For 50 PHP ($1 USD), you get unlimited swings, launching from wooden platforms built into the trees. There are two rope swings – one from a higher platform and another from a lower one.
At around 10:00 AM, the water was cold and perfect for the warm weather. There are shallow areas a few meters from the drop, where kids can enjoy the water.
After the drop, there is also another area with shallow waters, but not as shallow as the one at the top. Perfect for lounging and people watching. Also gives you a nice view of tourists flipping and cliff jumping near the drop.
Second Tier
A few steps to the side of the lower falls lead you to the second level. This tier has a smaller set of falls and another pool where visitors can swim. Although it’s considered the least spectacular part of the falls, it offers a serene spot for relaxation and a unique vantage point to view the first level from above. The pool here is quite small, and there are no rope swings or rafts.
Third Tier
The top tier of the falls is as impressive as the first, with another waterfall pouring blue water into a natural pool below. To reach this level, visitors must cross the pool at the second level via a bamboo bridge.
Similar to the first tier, there’s a wooden raft available for 50 PHP ($1 USD), which takes you to the base of the waterfall. Behind this waterfall lies a small cave so you’ll have a unique experience to stand beneath the flow of water or swim into the space behind the falls, listening to the water’s roar.
